WATERBURY — Mrs. Alice L. (Jeznach) Monroe, 99, of Meriden Road, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Meridian Manor after a brief illness. She was the widow of Harry I. Monroe.
Mrs. Monroe was born in Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 11, 1910, a daughter of the late Marcel and Catherine (Kosiewska) Jeznach. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and also lived in Prospect for eight years. She retired after many years from the Naugatuck Glass Factory. She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church where she volunteered for many activities. She will be remembered as a caring person.
She leaves her daughter-in-law, Grace Monroe of Prospect; a sister, Hattie Kolodziej of Florida; four grandchildren, June Rivera, Holly Demers, and Robert and Pennie Monroe, all of Naugatuck; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jack Monroe, and a sister, Stella Posila.
Her funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, East Waterbury Road, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
