NAUGATUCK – John “Big John” DellaCamera age 58 of Cherry Ave. formerly of Watertown and Oakville died Tuesday October 25, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Elaine (Wolf) DellaCamera.
John was born July 7, 1953 in Waterbury , a son of Ann (Varrone) and the late Alex DellaCamera and lived in Oakville and Watertown most of his life. He was a graduate of Watertown High School . John was currently employed as an electronics technician at Tech Air in Danbury . He was a communicant of Saint Mary Magdalen Church. John was known as Cruiser Extraordinaire, he loved cruising and car shows, regular cruises at Corey’s Cruise Night in Woodbury, Torrington Cruise Night and many others. John was a friend to all including The Brass City Cruiser, Yankee Cruisers, The Original Twi Lite Cruiser just to name a few. He was a longtime friend of Don Clady and Super Sunday Motorcycle Shows. He was an event and special promotions advisor for Connecticut Cruise News, Connecticut Cruise News man of the year 2006, head of security at Super Sunday Motorcycle Shows, Chairperson for the 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Bike and Car Show of Connecticut and instrumental in making Connecticut Cruise News what it is today. One of John’s cruising highlights was to have the honor of personally escorting TV and movie star Cindy Williams of American Graffiti fame.
Besides his wife of Naugatuck and mother of Oakville , he leaves two brothers Ted DellaCamera of Oakville , David DellaCamera of Tolland, a sister Joann Boyer of Bethlehem , a stepson Scott Wolf of Torrington , five nephews Ted, Alex, Brian, David, Matthew and a niece Ashley. He was predeceased by a brother Alex DellaCamera.
Funeral Saturday October 29 at 9 a.m. directly at Saint Mary Magdalen Church. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown .
