WATERBURY — William “Billy” Mordenti Jr., 71, of Waterbury, died Dec. 12, 2015 at home after a period of failing health.
He was born Sept. 13, 1944, son of the late William and Jayne (Shepard) Mordenti. Billy served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam (83rd Artillery) and worked as an auto mechanic.
Billy’s love was open wheel modified racing, both as a car owner and driver all over New England. He would help anyone he could when it came to race cars. His son Warren Mordenti will carry on the third generation of the Mordenti name in racing. Billy was also involved in his grandson Joey Cipriano’s modified racing as well.
Survivors include his sons, Warren Mordenti and his mother Donna Mordenti of Claremont, N.H. and Joe Cipriano (Cindy) of Waterbury; his daughter Shantel (Cipriano) Hall (Donnie) of Deltona, Fla.; a sister, Denise Mordenti of Waterbury; grandchildren Michael, Danielle, Stephanie, Joey, Jennifer; and a great-grandson and a niece and nephew.
Billy was predeceased by two brothers, Hector and Shepard, and a grandson D.J. Hall.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to Monique Chicoine of Northfield, a longtime friend for bringing Billy home and caring for him in his final days.
Also special thanks to Cliff and Pat for their longtime friendship. Billy loved his two dogs, Bella and Otis.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at 10 a.m. at New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Road, Waterbury. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., is in charge of arrangements.
