Donald “Mickey” Spiers, age 92 of Oxford, beloved husband of Kathleen (Resler) Spiers, entered peaceful rest on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in Glendale Health Center, Naugatuck.
Born in Stamford on April 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward and Grace (Stevens) Spiers. A proud Army veteran of WWII, Mickey was active in local VFW’s and always made himself available to other veterans. Upon his return from the war, he was a mechanic and eventually owned Shell and Chevron gas stations in Stamford. He also was the Chief Engineer for the volunteer fire department in Turner River (Stamford). Mickey enjoyed racing cars, fishing, the Boston Red Sox, vacationing in AZ, square dancing, as well as bringing his pickup truck to Fritz’s in Oxford. But most of all, he will be remembered for his love of family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by his sons, James Spiers and his wife Virginia of Norwalk, and Edward Spiers and his wife Catherine of Beacon Falls; daughter-in-law, Maureen Spiers of Milford; as well as 6 cherished grandchildren, Brian, Jessica, April, Kevin, Cody, and Justin, as well as his adored great granddaughter, Charlotte Rose. He was predeceased by his son, Donald E. Spiers.
