WATERBURY – Jane B. Sturges, formerly of Rockledge Drive, Waterbury, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, at RegalCare Center of Waterbury after an extended illness. She was the widow of Howard Sturges Sr.
Jane was born July 5, 1923 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Coleman) Baker. She was educated in local schools and spent many years working as a secretary at Scovill Manufacturing.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and was an avid bowler and a member of the Sena’s Bowling Alley, East Mountain League. Jane was also a member of the Children of Mary and a parishioner of St. Anthony Church.
Jane will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Jane is survived by her three sons, Howard Sturges Jr. and his wife Denise, of Middlebury, John Sturges and his wife Phyllis, of Oakville, and Steven Sturges and his wife Pamela, of Prospect. She also leaves her brothers, Mark Baker of Prospect and Warren Baker of Waterbury; her sisters, Ann Nichols of Louisiana and Karen Malz of New Hampshire. In addition, she leaves behind eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Jack and Ronnie Baker and Grace Vail.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sturges will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church, Prospect. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Jane’s family on Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial, 1987 E. Main St. at Southmayd Road, Waterbury.
