PARRISH, Fla. – Robert “Bob” H. Wilcox Sr., formerly of Waterbury, Conn., passed away on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at his home with loves ones by his side.
Bob was born on Dec. 30, 1935, in Waterbury, to William and Victoria (Shia) Wilcox. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was married to Ann Heiser from 1957-1994. He spent the last 23 years with his best friend and partner, Lorraine Haney of Waterbury, and in 2004, they moved to Parrish, Fla., where they spent their retirement years together.
Bob was employed by J.E. Smith for 37 years until it closed, and the next 9 years with Country Lumber as a salesman. He also took pride in being a mixologist at Waverly Inn in Cheshire, his second job, for 22 years. He enjoyed driving a limousine after leaving the building supply industry.
Bob was an avid golfer, setback player, die-hard Tampa Bay Rays fan and a member of the ELKS Club. He also enjoyed his cat Katy, reading, music, ballroom dancing, duck pin bowling and spending family time with his children and grandchildren, of whom he was most proud.
Bob is survived by his four sons, Robert H. Wilcox Jr., Mark Wilcox and his wife Lauri, Joseph Wilcox and his wife Pamela and Larry Wilcox and his wife Lori. Five grandchildren, Bobby, Kayla, Bryan, Laura and Brooke Wilcox; his sisters, Barbara Turcotte of Southington and Betty Francescino of Deland, Fla.; his brother, Joseph of Waterbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. His extended family, Kim and Joe Berglund and their sons, Ryan and Sean. Scott and Theresa Haney and their son James.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Victoria, and his brothers, William, Thomas, Earl and George.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Road, Waterbury. There are no calling hours before the service and a burial will be at a later date at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be sent to the Humane Society or Make a Wish Foundation.
