NAUGATUCK – We are deeply saddened to share with you the passing of a man who we referred to as “OUR SUPERMAN.”
Roger D. Farina passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann (Shanahan) Farina for 51 years. Roger was born on April 24, 1938 in Danbury, son of the late Dominic and Anne (Padula) Farina.
Roger was a family man, a proud father who is survived by his nine children who he adored. Melissa Farina and Angela Carlone both from Bristol. Robyn Alberto from Wolcott, Roger Farina Jr. and his Fiancé Noelle Bakstis, Steven Farina, Tami Mosman and her husband Richard Mosman all from Waterbury. Traci Farina and her fiancé Robert Castro, Rebecca Farina and her significant other Vitor Santos, Tricia Farina and her Fiancé Adam Proctor all from Naugatuck.
Roger is also survived by his two brothers and three sisters. Michael Farina and his late wife June of New Hampshire, Donald Farina and his wife Christine, Marguerite Lawrence and her late husband Anthony all from Southington. Karen and her husband Philip Gambino and Theresa and her husband John Phillips all from Florida. He is predeceased by his sister Anne Moody.
Roger had fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and is predeceased by his four grandchildren. All of his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. They all loved and adored their “PaPa” He had several nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Roger made a huge impact on every life he touched. His gentle kind ways made him unique and stand out from all the rest. He was a family man, a loving selfless individual who always went above and beyond for those he loved. Family meant the world to him and he meant the world to his family. He was blessed with a devoted loving wife who took care of him until the very end.
Aside from spending time with his family Roger also enjoyed riding his Harley and going camping back in the day. In previous years he also loved vacationing in Myrtle beach. He was a big time car enthusiast who loved going to car shows, he owned a 1951 Mercury and a 1933 Chevy which were both his pride and joy. He referred to his 33 Chevy as “Cherry Mary” who he named after his wife.
Roger was a self taught auto mechanic (the best of the best) who worked for Tony’s Auto Sales and Frank Buick for many many years. Even though he retired, he still continued to do what he loved best, which was work along side his son Roger Jr. down the garage every night till the very end. Roger was a strong amazing man who fought until the very end. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him. Forever will all the wonderful treasured memories we all shared with him remain embedded in our hearts for a lifetime. He may be gone but one thing is for sure, he will never be forgotten!
A funeral service will be held on Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd. , Prospect. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 203 Spring Lake Rd. , Waterbury.
