WATERBURY – Miss Kathleen P. Keating, age 77, entered God’s kingdom on Dec. 21, 2020, while under hospice care at Cheshire House in Waterbury.
She was born in Waterbury on Oct. 23, 1943, daughter to the late Walter and Rita (Holmes) Keating. She was predeceased by her brothers James and Terry Keating, and sister-in-law Carol Keating.
Kathy is survived by her sister Frances (Michael) Palmer, of Watertown; her sister-in-law Ruthie Keating of Ohio; her niece Theresa (Colin Dzioba) and nephew Mickey of Watertown; as well as nine out-of-state nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Kathy graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul Elementary and Waterbury Catholic High School. She received her B.S. in education from Danbury State College and her master’s in special education from Southern Connecticut State College. She started her teaching career at Sandy Hook Elementary and spent many years teaching at South Side School in Bristol until her retirement in 2002.
She was a member of the Bristol Association of Retired Teachers, CEA and NEA, American Orff Schulwerk Association of Connecticut and the Reading Recovery Association of North America.
She was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Leo the Great Parish from its inception. She was a catechism instructor, Eucharistic minister, member of the choir, the Ladies Guild and the General Philip Sheridan Columbiettes, and received the Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation in 2002.
Kathy was also a poll worker for many years and an AARP driving instructor. She loved animals and was an avid photographer, leaving behind many albums of memories for her family.
Due to the pandemic, interment will be private under the direction of Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway. Kathy would appreciate Mass offered on her behalf.
