OAKVILLE – Samuel G. Spatafore, 97, of Oakville, was reunited with his wife in Heaven on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, at the Apple Rehabilitation Center in Watertown. He was the loving husband of the late Rena F. (Cappa) Spatafore, who predeceased him in 2002.
Sam was born in Waterbury on Dec. 28, 1924, son of the late Alphonse and Immaculata (Pugliese) Spatafore. For more than 40 years, Sam worked as a machinist for Seymour Smith Inc. until his retirement, and then worked at Crestbrook Golf Course for many years, which he enjoyed.
Sam loved baseball and for many years coached a Watertown Little League Baseball team, and also was a standout baseball player in Waterbury. He also was an avid golfer and was the 1983 Farmingbury Hills Golf Club Champion, and also shot two holes-in-one at Crestbrook Golf Course.
Being a self-taught artist, Sam loved painting and has numerous religious paintings of his displayed at various churches in the Greater Waterbury and Watertown area.
Sam leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Gene Spatafore and his wife Gina, of Watertown, Lori Paquin and her husband Dennis, of Watertown, and Samuel Spatafore and his wife Peg, of Naugatuck.
He also leaves his seven grandchildren, Valerie Karas and her husband Joe, Amanda Frenis and her husband Paul, Marcey Rizzetta, Chris Paquin and his wife Denise, Courtney Spatafore, Marisa Spatafore, Nicole Spatafore; and his seven great-grandchildren, Mia and Brody Frenis, Brooke and Benjamin Karas, Dennis and Corey Paquin, and Jake Rizzetta.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Emil Spatafore and Alphonse Spatafore Jr.; and his two sisters, Elvira Eizenhoefer and Rose Pannoni.
Sam’s family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at the Apple Rehabilitation Center in Watertown for all of the wonderful care they gave to Sam during his time there.
A funeral will be Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, 8:45 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. Mary Magdalen Church, Holy Disciples Parish in Oakville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
