Laurice “Laurie” Stanco, age 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in the VITAS Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth J. Stanco.
Born on March 8, 1950 in Waterbury, Laurie was the daughter of the late Marshall and Jennie (Shaker) Matney. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked as an assistant librarian at Wilby High School for over 19 years. She also worked for KENecticut Hardware, her family’s business, for over 20 years. She loved her time spent at her home in Surfside Beach, South Carolina where she vacationed with her family, extended family, and friends. She enjoyed trips to the casino with her cousin Debbie Miele and her sisters-in-law Jean and Jane Stanco and spending time with Ken traveling to different car shows on the weekends. Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother and was devoted to her family.
In addition to Ken, her devoted husband of 53 years, Laurie is survived by her son Michael Stanco and his wife Kate of Naugatuck; her daughter Tracy DiGiovancarlo and her husband Michael of Waterbury and her four grandchildren Michael “Mikey” DiGiovancarlo, Angelo “Guido” DiGiovancarlo, Jordan Stanco, and Savannah Stanco. She also leaves her brothers-in-law James Stanco and his wife Linda, Rich Stanco and his wife Pat and Ted Stanco and his wife Joan and her sisters-in-law Jean Stanco, Jane Stanco, and Lana Stanco as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Louis Matney, her sisters Yvonne “Bunny” DiStiso and Faithe Genua and her brothers-in-law Ronald Stanco and Tom Stanco.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury from 2:00-5:00pm with a service beginning at 5:00pm. Everyone attending will be required to wear face masks and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.
